for mothers who ripped while giving birth!?
l just had my son 2 weeks ago. l ripped pretty bad (all the way from the
birthing hole (lol) to the anal :(. l am still pretty sore to say the
least, l still have to urinate in the shower bc of the water bc the urine
stings it so bad. When will this all heal and will it ever really heal? l
heard that when it rips in its on it is worse and can always tear again
later is this true? Also, l have had 2 bowel movents in the 2 weeks and
they were both so painful that l was in tears. l am taking stool softners. It feels like it is tearing more when l do try. Also, is the scaring forever? l have felt down there and it feels differant and weird now like a rope stitched to my skin or something, will it always be like that now there? Thanks so much. l know this is a lot of info but l dont know who else to ask but moms who have went through this. Thank you
It is awful itsn't it! Hang in there! I had to run a shallow
tub of ice water to be able to pee for 3 weeks - and my tearing was not
nearly as bad as yours.
IT will heal. Did u know that the tissue in the human mouth and
the female vaginal tissue is the fastest healing tissue in the human body??
I learned that having to take a biology a&p course. Wish you a quick
recovery and congrats on your baby!
Go to wal-mart & get you a bottle of the Lysol in the brown
bottle yellow lid it is concentrated...Take & fill the bathroom sink with
some warm water & put one capfull in the water then take a wash cloth &
get wet & squeeze out so not dripping & lay it on the stiches do this
several times a day ....you will feel better. It will reduce the swelling
& it takes the soreness out as well...yes you will have a scare ....I was
in ur shoes once & my husbands aunt told me about this & it works....
You remind me of my recovery from labour all over again. Drink
lots of water. Both to dilute the urine and for breast feeding. I take
prunes everyday and also Metamucil (fibre) to ensure smooth bowel
movement. It really helps.
I completely empathize. Yes, it will feel different and there
will always be a scar and scar tissue present, but this should not impact
your life in any way. Once you have healed, which will take a good 6
weeks, you should be as good as new.
I started to tear with my first & then the doctor cut me, it
took about 3 weeks before it was pretty much healed. As far as scaring,
that depends on ur body & how well you heal, or how badly you scar. At my
6 week the doctor asked if I had had an episiotomy, because I have no
scar. With my 3rd I tore, then the doctor cut it to the side to stop it, &
then I tore up the side also. And again I don't have a scar. But that is me
I heal well & have minimal scaring. If you are still having that much pain, go to a drug store & get Dermoplast pain relieving spray. I was given that in the hospital with my 3rd. It works great. And take colace stool softener, 3 times a day for a couple days this is what they give in the hospital after delivery, you wont have the b.m. problems or pain either.
You will heal up and the scar will always be there - but you
wont feel it when you touch it like you feel it now. You are still
feeling the actual stitches.
You can also use those hemorrhoid cooling pads down there to reduce the
swelling and provide some pain relief.
That did not happen to me, but to my sister. it did heal in
about 1 year cause she was really bad. but now 12 years later, she says she
too feels like a rope or something is there. its just scar tissue. she said
the pain though will eventually go away. she also says she should just get
her own profile on this site. lol
I tore with both of my boys. I thought I would never heal.
After my first they gave me a little squirt bottle to squeeze warm water
on my stitches after peeing to get the Urine off & some tucks pads. Also
ice packs for the first few days to take swelling down. With my second
they gave me some spray, the water squirter & told me that I should get a
sitz bath (not sure if that is the right spelling or not lol). I didn't
get one but i did use the spray, the tucks pads, ice packs & warm water to keep the urine off. When i got constipated i made sure to keep taking the stole softners & yes it felt like i was going to rip open with bowl movements. By around 4 wks i was feeling a lot better. By 6 wks I felt even better. It took until about 12 wks for me to really feel good but I wasn't really in a whole lot of pain just a little uncomfortable with bowel movements still until that point. The stitches will heal & they might start itching (the great thing about Tucks medicated pads the itch isn't so bad with them). The stitches do feel weird. I felt like I had wires down there which was really really weird feeling lol but you don't know it once it heals & everything.
It will heal in time and the scarring will reduce and go back
to ''normal'' feeling tissue. You've got to remember you just had a baby
stretch all that tissue to the limits only 2 weeks ago! Ask your doctor
about sitz baths to help with healing and circulation there. Also drinks
LOTS of water. It will help dilute the urine so it doesn't sting as bad!
I understand totally what you are going through. I tore a
little bit, only about 1/2 inch down. But I got stitches, & it burned
when I'd go pee, & having bowel movements is EXCRUCIATING, I know, I cried
so hard, & I held it in as much as I could because it was so painful.
It didn't tear again, it did heal, after 4 weeks it felt SOO much better.
It is been 8 months now. The area has healed very well. There is a little bit of scar tissue, but nothing major. It is definitely not as bad as I thought it would be. And there isn't any soreness now at all. I waited until I was 9 weeks postpartum before I had sex again, just because the idea itself was scary. It took a good month after getting active again for me to relax & not think about it, but now it is like it never happened.
